Project: Felt Play Food (Corn on the Cob)

 The first time Shane had corn-on-the-cob this summer, he went absolutely ballistic over it.  He could easily put away an ear of corn — sometime even two — on his own.  He’d get excited and incredibly impatient when we’d pull the corn from the pot, and I’d have to hold it under running water to cool it down enough so that he could get his hands on it Right. This. Instant!

When I stumbled across this tutorial recently for making  corn-on-the-cob I knew it would be the next addition to Shane’s slowly growing collection of felt play food.  How could I not?  He still gets wildly excited when he sees photos or drawings of corn-on-the-cob — he’ll point it out while exclaiming “Nummy!”  and frantically, desperately, signing “Please, please!”

 

 The husks are removable…and wound up being torn off and discarded on the floor right away.  (My first attempt wound up coming out a bit…wonky…for lack of a better word).

Shane decided that Bob the Bear needed to be fed corn on the cob. 
He demanded a bib for his bear, then he wrestled him into the high chair.

Shane carefully stirred the corn in the pot, then reached in to grab and ear, quickly pulling his hand out, saying “Hot!  Ow!”   With some trial and error, he was able to finally scoop up a single ear of corn with the wooden spoon.

Bear was being rather stubborn, though, and refused to even try the corn that Shane was so generously offering.
