Simple Pleasures

September 23, 2010

There is something positive to be found in the midst of a health scare, a so-called “silver lining” that peaks out from behind the churning clouds of anxiety that threaten to overwhelm your thoughts.  When suddenly, unexpectedly, your health becomes fragile, wrought with questions and worries, the littlest moments, the simplest pleasures, become your most cherished.

Yesterday, I was home with my son.

Yesterday, we were relaxing in our yard, enjoying the warmth of the sun and a soft, gentle breeze.

Yesterday, I lounged in a chair while Shane spent the afternoon contentedly exploring a massive pile of sand my husband left at the edge of the driveway.

Quiet moments, routine adventures, simple pleasures.

This is what I cherish.

“Quiet moments, routine adventures, simple pleasures.” Enjoy, for they truly are what life is about and most of us take them for granted. Wonderful simple pleasure.

    Hugs!

What a blessing in disguise. I’m so glad you have found a time of clarity and I pray that your health scare is not too serious! This is the perfect simple pleasure. (And might I had, those shoes of yours are fabulous!)

Beautifully stated. Why it is that we often overlook that simple pleasures and wonders around us I do not know. I’m as guilty as the rest at times. As a new empty nester, I can say without fear of contradiction that those moments just watching your child play bring pleasure beyond measure.

Definitely. How we can get so caught up in the thoughts of life, sometimes being overtaken by them to the point that we forget how to just breath simply, rest purposefully and enjoy what we have in the moment. So glad that you did these things yesterday. Continue on, my friend. Allow yourself sweet serenity.

It is comforting to be at home, isn’t it? Just together. Just being. It’s one of my favorite things.
