Where have I been?

August 12, 2010

I’m embarrassed by how long it’s been since I’ve posted even just a photo post, let alone anything of substance. I’m mortified by how long it’s been since I’ve responded to comments left here for me, or have been caught up on reading my favorite blogs. Every so often I’ll pull up my blog reader, whimper pitifully when I see just how many items I still have unread (1000+ today…ack!), and then immediately exit out of that page while waving my white flag of defeat.

So what’s been going on?  I’ve been exhausted.  During the early weeks of Shane’s life when we were struggling with breastfeeding and I was recovering from a c-section and nobody in this house was sleeping for longer than two hours at a stretch, I was incredibly tired.  During that period when I was working full time and coming home to an infant who was reverse-cycling and nursing all night long, I was burnt out.  But I’ve never experienced such a pervasive, bone-deep fatigue like I’m coping with now.

It’s as though our summer has screeched to a halt.  All those fun things Shane and I have been doing — play dates and neighborhood hikes , trips to the beach and mornings spent at the playground — have been put on hold.   We’ve been spending our days cuddled up on the couch together, watching Fraggle Rock DVDs and Pixar movies (the current favorites? Shrek Two and Cars).

It’s not just due to chasing around Mr. Perpetual Motion.  Although keeping up with a two-and-a-half-year-old dare-devil — one who has two operating speeds: “GoGoGo!” and “Sleep” — would wear anyone down.

Speaking of my human blur…what’s that on his shirt? What does that say?!

Well, that explains everything.  Or at the very least, now you can understand the reason behind my recent absence from blogging.

So, you might want to brace yourselves…for now that I’m “out,” I”m sure that there’s going to be a deluge of OMG WE’RE GONNA HAVE ANOTHER BABY posts in the weeks and months to come.

congratulations!! That is really exciting news. Hope you are feeling ok.

Thanks Ashlee! I didn’t realize I had accidentally hit publish right then (I had the photos set, but hadn’t written anything yet)! I’ll blame that on pregnancy-brain. 🙂 I’m feeling alright…just so very tired and this persistent all-day-long nausea that I never experienced w/ my son. But I keep hearing that it will pass, so I’m hanging on!

Congrats on the new baby news!

I’m thrilled for you! Yay! How exciting! Hope you’re doing the best you can to take care of yourself. (I know that’s easier said than done the second time around.) Look forward to hearing more of your new adventures as you have the time & energy to share!

Thanks! It’s hard w/ an active little guy in the house, but I’ve been trying to rest as much as I can — napping when he naps (I can’t even begin to express how grateful I am that he hasn’t given up naps yet!) and going to bed early. I’m looking forward to the second-trimester energy surge, because I’ve been feeling very sloth-like lately!

How exciting! I was actually thinking about you yesterday as I hung out a load of washing and was thinking that you hadn’t updated your blog in ages. I was worried that maybe one of you was sick. I’m so glad to see that your absence is because of much happier things!!!! Looking forward to following the story of your pregnancy over the coming months. How far along are you….?!

Oh thank you! That’s really sweet, that you were thinking of me! Not sick…just feeling sick, which is a whole new experience for me, because I never had morning sickness w/ Shane. I’m just shy of 11 weeks now, so hopefully the nausea will abate and I’ll have energy again once I reach the second trimester.

Thank you so much! I was thinking of you the other day, when I checked in on my new due-date community on LJ. I thought that our Feb ’08 community was so great, but this one’s been incredibly quiet. Oh well…

Such exciting news! Wow! Babies are such a blessing, if they don’t teach us patience and love nothing will.

Thank you! It’s amazing how motherhood changes you — I have definitely learned the meaning of patience since becoming a mother, and have been amazed by how much love my heart can hold.

    CONGRATULATIONS, Crystal!

I just popped over and smiled extra wide when I read the news.

You are going to love having two.

Thank you so much! I’m so happy that my family is growing — I’ve been feeling as though there’s been someone still missing, someone waiting to join us.

I’m jealous and excited all at the same time! I’ve been so bad with reading blogs, responding to comments, but not for that reason. Because of a photography business I’ve been starting. I’d like to say I’m pregnant…it would also explain why I’ve gotten so fat lately! 🙂

    • August 22, 2010 2:52 pm

Oh, thank you! I’m excited to hear that your photography business is doing well — your photos are incredible and you’ve earned this success!

It’s so hard to keep up with the blogging when life’s pulling you away from the computer! I’ve just been sloth-like on the couch while Shane watches too much TV…I wish I could say I’ve been a neglectful bloggy-friend because I’ve been busy doing other things! =)

Thank you so much…I’ve got to head over your way and catch up on all the great Jonathan stories! He just cracks me up!

Congrats!!! I think that’s a great excuse for not blogging as much – how exciting for your family!

Sorry it’s taken me so long to respond, the past month has been beyond stressful. Thank you so much, though, for your good wishes! We’re very excited, and so eager to welcome this new little member of our family!
