“Helping” in the Herb Garden

April 8, 2010

Of course, Shane’s idea of “helping” with the herb garden was to scoop up clumps of soil in his bare hands and stuff it down in the middle of my chives, or pat it into little mounds where last year’s annuals used to be.

And we’ll have to work some more on the concept of what is a weed, and what is a valued herb.  He cheerfully eradicated a good portion of my oregano before I noticed and could divert him!

I’m eager to let him get his hands dirty, to discover the wonder of a garden, to experience Mother Nature at work, and to share with him what I’ve learned — and am still learning — with each new season’s garden.

Why try to explain miracles to your kids
when you can just have them plant a garden.
