Photo Story Friday — Helping Daddy

March 19, 2010

With the arrival of spring comes spring clean-ups.  And lots of them, since my husband is a landscaper.  Since the ground is still far too spongy after this past weekend’s torrential rains to work on his customer’s yards, my husband was doing some minor cleaning up around home while Shane played outside.

Shane was far too interested in what Daddy was doing to want to play with his toys. Loose sand and dirt on the driveway was painstakingly swept into a pile while Shane watched, ever curious. When my husband disappeared into the garage, and emerged again with a big bucket and shovel, Shane was beyond thrilled…and quickly found a way to join in and “help!”

The pile was spread far and wide. Dirt was carefully shoveled up, only to be dropped a few feet over. The bucket was filled…and dumped…and filled again.

A five minute job took closer to twenty.

And my husband — so patient, so gentle, so sweet — just kept encouraging Shane, cheering him on, thanking him for his help.

They’re going to make quite a team. They already do.

Aw, so sweet. Your husband sounds like he has every little boy’s dream job; dirt! He gets to play with dirt!

So sweat. My boy does that with the dustpan. When we get the broom ot, he goes running for the dustpan, and holds it for us, and then takes it to the garbage…. dropping most of the dirt along the way!!

I LOVE these pictures! They just capture a moment and then tell a story all by themselves. The first one should be framed!

I love how he is so helpful and looks so cute doing it. His little overalls are adorable.

This was such a sweet post. Isn’t it awesome when the dads are so calm about it all…even when we think they might freak right out. My husband is such a neat freak and I’m not and neither is my son, but sometimes Jonathan tries to help and daddy is patient and lets him..even when more of it ends up on the floor than in the trash or wherever.
