Reconnected

March 8, 2010

We’ve been struggling over the past few days.
Disconnected as a family.
Sleep-deprived and short-tempered
as we fumble our way through night-weaning our son.

Parents at odds with toddler —
Get down!
Stop hitting!
Go to sleep!
Don’t!
No!
Stop!

Husband and wife at odds with each other —
You don’t…
You won’t…
You never…
You…
You…
You…

We needed a break.
A chance to regroup, recharge, reminisce, restart, reconnect.
We found that at the beach.

No!  Stop!  Don’t!
Transformed into
Yes, run!
Yes, climb!
Yes, dig!
Yes, explore!

Brisk air
Warm sun
Endless sand… waves… horizon… sky…
Endless hope… possibilities…joy… love…

Shrieks of laughter
Sandy bottom and damp boots
Spontaneous hugs —
Toddler’s arms wrapped around parents’ necks —
Reconnected.

Quiet voices and soft smiles
Husband and wife’s fingers intertwined as we head to the car —

I just loved this post. We’ve had weekends/weeks like this and going outside to unwind is just what we needed. Of course we didn’t go to the beach because we are nowhere near a beach, but we went to the playground or just outside the house. We did it yesterday too and it was nice just to have fun and not worry about everything. But it’s Monday so it is back to worrying. 🙂

Oh, there’s just something in that sand, something in that salty air, something in the bluer than blue water that makes it all better. It never fails.
    Gorgeous pictures. Lovely post.

This was a beautiful post, Crystal. Sometimes an outdoor adventure is exactly what the doctor ordered. 🙂
